Tim is a 17 year old, year 11 high school student. This webinar follows Tim’s interactions with a variety of mental health professionals after seeing his GP. The interdisciplinary panel consider each profession’s perspective, as well as how they can work collaboratively to support Tim. This is the second webinar in a series of two focusing on adolescent mental health.

Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is an adolescent psychologist working in private practice in Kew, Melbourne. He has held a variety of appointments including:

  • Executive Director of the New Zealand Drug Foundation and Director of the Centre for Social Health at the University of Melbourne
  • Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne (1993).

In addition to being the Agony Uncle for Girlfriend Magazine for the last 6 years, Michael is also the parenting expert for Channel 7's Sunrise and the Morning Show, and is a social commentator on Fairfax radio 3AW.

  • Dr Peter Parry
    Qualifications: MBBS, FRANZCP, Cert Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP)
    Profession: Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

    Dr Peter Parry is a child & adolescent psychiatrist with the Southern Adelaide Health Service – CAMHS, and a senior lecturer at Flinders University. He graduated from Adelaide Medical School in 1983, was a medical officer in the Royal Australian Navy, general practitioner and worked in palliative care before training in psychiatry from 1990 at Glenside Hospital in South Australia.

    Since 1995 Peter has worked in both inpatient and outpatient CAMHS services in South Australia and the UK. He has an interest in mindfulness based psychotherapy, developmental psychology and the models underpinning psychiatric diagnosis and has published on the controversy surrounding the diagnosis of paediatric bipolar disorder in the USA.


  • Dr Simon Kinsella
    Qualifications: B.Sc.(Hons), Dip.S.O.Hyp., PhD, MAPS
    Profession: Clinical Psychologist

    Dr Simon Kinsella is a Melbourne based clinical psychologist with over 17 years experience. He completed a PhD researching the links between family conflict, family functioning and life satisfaction.  He was a senior clinical psychologist in the Austin Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, and in the adolescent day patient program at the Albert Road Clinic.

    Currently Dr Kinsella works full time in private practice, where he consults children, adolescents, families and adults.  He is an Honorary Fellow in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. 

    He holds statutory positions as an independent medical examiner and as a panelist for the disciplinary review board. He is also the current Chairman of the Victorian State Committee of the Australian Psychological Society and Chairman of the Melbourne Branch of the Australian Psychological Society.


  • Ann Garden
    Qualifications: BA (Soc.Sci) Cert. Family Therapy, Cert. Dev. Psychiatry, Dip. Clin. Hypnosis, M Nursing, Cert Advanced Pharmacology
    Profession: Family Therapist and Mental Health Practitioner

    Ann Garden provides mental health assessment and intervention for children, adolescents and families within a multidisciplinary private practice in Frankston, Melbourne. She has extensive experience working in the areas of serious mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, family conflict and with clients who have been victims of trauma, crime or childhood abuse. 

    Ann has worked in a broad range of settings including CAMHS services, mental health in patient settings and in University, Tafe and Welfare sectors.  Ann holds clinical membership with the PACFA and is Credentialed with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.


  • Dr Mary Emeleus
    Qualifications: MBBS BSc(Med), FRACGP Grad Dip Rural, MMH (Psychotherapy)
    Profession: General Practitioner
    Mary is a GP and Psychotherapist working at headspace Cairns. She has a mixed role as Senior Clinician, including seeing clients for medical, psychological medicine and psychotherapy appointments, supervising counselling staff and contributing to management. She previously worked at headspace Townsville for four years in a similar role and was GP Advisor to Mental Health Programs for Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local. 

    Her professional interests include lifestyle medicine, adolescent mental health, early psychosis intervention, psychological and social approaches to psychosis, Balint groups and Psychodynamic, Jungian and Existential theory & practice. 

    Memberships include Australian Society for Psychological Medicine (www.aspm.org.au) (committee member), RACGP NFSI Psychological Medicine Network, Balint Society of Australia and the International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis (ISPS) (www.isps.org.au).
